The Nigeria Customs Service Area Controller Niger/Kwara/Kogi Area Command, Comptroller Yusuf Abba Kasim says journalists should avoid writing fake news or blackmail.
The comptroller made the statement in an interview with newsmen on customs activities recently.
He said, many writers and journalists engaged themselves in fake news.
“It’s attempts to confuse or manipulate people through delivering dishonest information to them”.
He stressed that, journalists must convey truthful information and a whole spectrum of opinion on certain issues.
” News or report should be based on facts not fiction”.
On customs activities, Abba Kasim said, the public should always know that the nigeria customs service functions are mainly for collection of revenue, (import, excise duties and other taxes/levies) and accounting for same; Anti-Smuggling activities; Security functions; Generating statistics for planning and budgetary purpose.
“It’s our responsibility to inspect all customs and excise formations throughout the country to ensure that approved procedures are being applied” he added.i
